September is part of the hurricane season in the Caribbean and the weather can be quite rainy then, so keep that in mind. Mexico is really a hit or miss as Pacific storms are an issue and it is the height of rainy season there too. Maybe you guys should try Europe if you can afford it, less tourists and you should be able to get great deals, but the Euro will take a bite out of your pocket.
