My family likes to go to state parks within our own state. The cabins usually have to be booked early but there’s often room in the lodge or campgrounds, especially during the week. There is swimming - in the pool or lake, fishing, playgrounds, hiking or just relaxing. It’s also cheaper than a lot of places you could go.
From where? If you are on the East Coast, San Diego isn’t really going to be a great option for you, and vice versa, simply because of travel time. Try visiting lastminutetravel.com and seeing if they have any specials running that you could take advantage of. It could be a great way to try something new & fun! Good luck!
