We are taking our 18 month old to Florida (from NY). Since our health insurance doesn’t cover expenses across state lines I’m trying to find out if we can purchase travel insurance for domestic travel. My searches yielded results mostly for international travel.

Is there domestic travel health insurance? When I can buy it?
Thanks!

Are you sure about that? Most health insurances will cover emergency or urgent care out of state.

Health insurance can be very tricky. Since I live in Maine I’m not familiar with the Florida laws and regulations, so I recommend you visit a nearby health insurance agent. They should be able to assist you.

In most states (if not all but I can’t be positive) insurance companies are required to provide coverage anywhere if it is for a medical emergency. Of course, if you will be out of state for an extended time period and want coverage for routine doctor visits, prescriptions, etc. then you will want to buy a separate plan. You may just want to purchase a cheap short term health insurance plan or even a regular individual health insurance plan and then cancel the plan once you move back to NY. Here is some more info:

Yes, try this link. They offer a number of policy options and a free quote. TravelEx is one of the best insurance options available for both domestic and international travel and I have been using them many years.
