Is it safe to buy cheap travel insurance online?
February 14, 2009
I’m going on holiday on Thursday with my friends, and originally we were going without travel insurance. However, I changed my mind, and was looking for cheap insurance. I found a policy that has £10m medical expenses, £2m personal liability cover, £3000 cancellation cover and £2000 baggage cover, and all for £4.73. Is this too good to be true?
The company’s called Columbus Direct Europe, and they’re one of loads. There were 2000 hits on the site I went on. It’s not that I don’t trust them - I’m sure they’re probably great, but is it wise to get cheap insurance online? I don’t want to get injured or anything and then find the company is a rip off!

I have done a travel insurance search on www.moneysupermarket.com and 3 of the results have come back at under £11 for single trip cover for a couple travelling to Turkey for 1 week (13th Aug to 22nd Aug). The companies are Primary Insurance, Club Direct and Columbus Direct. Has anyone had insurance from any of these companies and had good/bad experiences? I have had a look at the cover provided and it looks fairly standard.

My mum, brother and I are going to Greece in a few weeks (from the uk) and need travel insurance.
So far, the cheapest I’ve found is £25 for the three of us, from Columbus Direct. That includes most things but not cancellation.
Are there any cheaper companies? I’ve tried money supermarket, but their cheapest was £45
